Islam 101

Islam has five primary obligations, or pillars of faith, that each Muslim must fulfill in his or her lifetime. They are as follows:

Shahadah

The Muslim statement of faith.

Salat

Daily prayers performed five times a day.

Zakat

Compulsory giving of a set proportion of one's wealth to charity.

Sawm

Fasting in the month of Ramadhan.

Hajj

Once in a lifetime pilgrimage to Mecca.

Welcome to the Islam Information Centre website.

This site will give you a brief insight into the work of the Islam Information Centre (IIC) and its activities.

The IIC’s primary objective is to promote the beautiful religion of Islam and the noble character of the final messenger sent to mankind Muhummad (peace be upon him).

The site is a start point for any individual that wants to explore the true meaning of the worlds fastest growing religion with over 1.3 billion followers and learn about ‘true Islam’ that is often misrepresented within our media rich society

The purpose of the Islam Information Centre is to engage with both local and national non Muslims and public, private or voluntary organisations to promote Islam.

As well as propagating Islam the centre also provides help, support and counselling for reverts* wishing to embrace Islam.

The word revert is used for any non Muslim wishing to convert to Islam. The term is used to indicate that everyone is born a Muslim.

The Centres Objectives

  • To promote the beautiful and noble character of the beloved Prophet Muhummad (peace be upon him) in it’s pristine purity
  • Provide full and part-time Islamic education courses for reverts to Islam
  • Provide an Islam Resource Centre containing Islamic Journals, Books, Video, Audio, and Islamic literature to Introduce Islam to non Muslims
  • To promote Islam to non Muslims through various channels such as Exhibitions, Islam Information Stalls at major events and functions, In house seminars and Islam awareness events
  • In today’s challenging environment monitor media coverage and provide accurate and professional written and spoken responses to promote an accurate and just view of Islam
  • Raise Islam awareness and the needs of Muslim’s through engaging Public, Private and Voluntary Organisations locally and nationally
