The Islamic date system (or Hijri calendar) is a lunar calendar based on the cycles of the moon.

The calendar contains 12 months per year, totalling around 354 days a year.

The islamic year is 11 days shorter than the solar calendar, therefore significant dates always shift by 11 days every solar year.
