By February 2006 funds raised locally had reached a staggering £220,000 through the overwhelming generosity of the local Muslim community. It was decided to build an orphanage in the village of Montasik in Banda Aceh. The orphanage is expected to accommodate up to 400 children complete with sports facilities and a small doctors surgery. This would be a lasting gift and legacy from the local Muslim community of Leicester. Again, the news made it to the local newspaper, the Leicester Mercury.
