Masjid Umar Today

Today, Masjid Umar is one of the key Masajids in Leicester and the East Midlands. The Masjid has won architectural awards for its modern design yet it still retains strong elements of Islamic architecture. The Masjid is fully operational with the 5 daily prayers (Salaah) being led by the two imams, Moulana Muhammad Sindhi and Moulana Dawood Patel.

Daily Madressa classes run between 5pm and 7pm for children at the Masjid and also at the Stoughton Road premises. The Head of Islamic Studies is Moulana Javed Patel. Further information and admission details can be found under the Education page. The adjacent building to the Masjid is also used as a daytime nursery known as the Land of Learning. Further details about the Land of Learning Nursery can be found visiting their site www.lolnursery.org

The Masjid also provides other services such as Marriage (Nikah) Ceremonies, guidance with Burials, Adult Islamic Education, Group Visits and Counselling services. Details on all these services can be found on the Services page. The Masjid today is a thriving centre for religious education and has become an important local organisation striving to bridge the gap between the negative perceptions of Islam and the true meaning of Islam.
